Square Moon on the Isle of Inishfree
Square Moon on Isle of Inishfree, Lough Gill, Sligo, Ireland
We are delighted to announce that the Square Moon Phase 2 project which we have been involved in since June is now complete with the installation yesterday of the final piece on the Isle of Inishfree.
The Square Moon artwork was commissioned by Yeats2015 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of WB Yeats and is part of a series of Year long events across Ireland and beyond. The international competition to design an art or architectural work for the island was won by a Korean/ UK team and the studio was asked to interpret their design into a lightweight version that could be installed and operated with ease for use on particular dates such as the current full moon phase.
Our sincere thanks to all the team at Sligo IT including Michael Rolston, the team at Rathedmond Engineering and all the many suppliers who helped along the way. It was a very complex artwork to design and organise however it was a very smooth installation yesterday despite high winds and waves early in the day.
